WHAT'S MY LINE?

This post was originally "a minute review."
Well .
Maven re-reviewed it and decided to expand on it since it's one of those nifty fifties features that tends to stick in a viewer's memory.

"Invaders From Mars" (1954)

THE ATOMIC SUBMARINE (1959) has a lot of character actors that you'll recognize like Arthur Franz (Invaders From Mars, 1953), Dick Foran (The Mummy's Hand, 1940), Tom Conway (The Saint movie series).
The production values are excellent when you consider it's a b-movie. . . .  The submarine looks like something that you might come across in service, inside and out.
The only problem that Maven has with The Atomic Submarine is that it's boring until they catch up with all the funny business up under the Artic.

SO:  Is The Atomic Submarine worth watching?
Yes, if you enjoy seeing great character actors and pretty good sets and have a vcr or DVD player to tape it off cable!
Yes, it makes a great gift . . . if you can get somebody to give it to you!

Will It Last?!

POSCRIPT:  Maven still recommends this movie.  Why?  She still enjoys the character actors and sets!
We're talking about Dick Foran, Arthur Franz, Tom Conway, Bob Steele, Selmer Jackson, and Brett Halsey.
And the story?  The story is basically fifties' b-feature fare, complete with a womanizer out after the blonde who always seems to be ready for a . . . shall we say "good time"?!
But he's called back to work on a space age atomic submarine that's sent under the Artic Circle to check out some bizarre happenings to some of Uncle Sam's other atomic submarines.
There's a twist. . . .  Brett Halsey is Dr. Carl Neilson is a pacific who has a history with Arthur Franz's Commander "Reef" Holloway.
Halsey's character is an early advocate of using other means to ensure peace besides the military's use of any form of weaponry but the story handles both his and Franz's perspectives well--at least in Maven's opinion.
But this is "on the cusp," as it were, in 1959 and the military converts the Neilson.
             And the creature?
             Decide for yourself!
